Creating Text Buttons

Text Buttons are simply strings of text rendered in the current font. There are several reasons why you might want to create a text button. The first is that you might be using Font Fiend to create text rollover images for a web program. For example, let's say you have a web page that requires the words "Home", "Real E$tate Empire" and "Other Games" to be displayed and, when the mouse is on them, to have them display with a glow and brightened text. To make the images for this application you would go to the Sprite List box and click on the "Insert Button" button. Do this three times to create the words "Home", "Real E$tate Empire" and "Other Games" while using an appropriate font. Next you would save each image using the "Export Sprite" function. Next you would add a Glow effect or take the current one and make it more pronounced. Additionally you might want to change some colors in your font effect as well. Once you have made these changes then you would export the images again but with a different name, ie. you might have saved the first "Home" button as "Home.PNG", you might now save the lit version as "Home_lit.png".

Text buttons can also be helpful when doing fine tuning on text that may be improperly hot-spotted in your game. See the Hotspotting instructions for more information on how to set up a text button and then fine tune a hotspotting problem.
